Dr. Gamaliel Tan
Orthopaedic Surgeon with a Focus on Spine Care
Dr. Gamaliel Tan is an experienced spine surgeon in Singapore whose practice spans the full spectrum of spinal conditions, caring for both local and international patients. Trained extensively in orthopaedics and spine surgery, he is recognised for his strong commitment to patient outcomes and the quality of care he provides.
Over the years, Dr. Tan has developed a reputation for managing complex spinal disorders with precision. His practice emphasises modern, minimally invasive spine techniques designed to reduce downtime, support rehabilitation, and preserve long-term mobility. With broad clinical exposure and continuous involvement in the advancement of spine care, Dr. Tan remains a dedicated contributor to Singapore’s spine surgery landscape.
He established the Orthopaedics Department at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH) in 2009 and led the department until 2018. He subsequently headed the Spine Division through 2023. In 2020, he introduced and developed the hospital’s endoscopic spine surgery service.
From 2018 to 2023, he was appointed Group Chief Medical Informatics Officer (GCMIO) for the National University Health System (NUHS), where he played a key role in implementing the cluster-wide electronic medical records system. Under the team’s leadership, the system achieved significant recognition, including the HIMSS EMRAM Stage 7 awards in 2016 and 2020, as well as the HIMSS Davies Award in 2020.
