Some Conditions which Fraxel really excels at are:
Pores! Fraxel is at the top of my list for treatment of pores. Big pores respond really well to Fraxel and 3-4 treatments are sufficient to really reduce and minimize pores on the face, especially on the cheeks and nose.
Age spots and Melasma, especially melasma which does not respond to conventional forms of treatment. Fraxel is excellent for treating melasma, especially in combination with the Q-switch laser. Fraxel rejuvenates the skin, and removes the top layers of pigmented skin cells, making the skin softer and more glowy, with clearer skin tone. On top of that, younger skin is less likely to produce pigmentation and age spots.
Stretch marks respond particularly well to Fraxel. We are able to really improve stretch marks quickly, with obvious results after just one session and continuing to improve with each additional session. These include deep stretch marks from pregnancy, weight gain, exercise stretching etc. When combined with the Edge Fractional CO2 laser, the results are even better.
How does Fraxel work?
Fraxel Dual has two wavelengths, hence the name “Dual”. The first wavelength is a 1550nm Erbium Glass laser, and the second is a 1927nm Thullium laser. Each laser excels at a different purpose.
The Erbium laser is a non-ablative (i.e non-burning) laser which penetrates the top layer of skin without burning it. It heats up the lower layer of the skin in order to stimulate cell rejuvenation and collagen regeneration. This helps with fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scarring. It also helps to remove damaged aged skin cells which are responsible for age spots.
The second Thullium laser is a very superficial laser, which treats pigmentation which commonly resides at the top layer of the skin. This laser is able to peel off the superficial dead and damaged skin cells and help the skin to regenerate a new layer of young and fresh looking skin cells.

Each Fraxel treatment takes only ten minutes to complete. Before each treatment you will need to apply numbing cream on your face to numb it. This takes about 45 minutes prep time.
We use our own special blend of numbing cream, which is the most effective in preventing pain. In addition, a cool air blower is used to further cool down the skin and protect it from burns, as well as to reduce pain. Most patients find the treatment tolerable with slight discomfort.
Results from the Fraxel laser can be seen as early as one week after the treatment, and continues to improve over the course of the next few weeks, peaking at one month after.
After a fraxel treatment, you may experience temporary redness and darkening of the skin. The extent of downtime is depending on the energy levels used. Usually for pigmentation, rejuvenation, shallow acne scars and most other indications, low to medium energy levels are used and downtime is correspondingly short. Most patients are back to work with some make-up cover after two to three days. For treating deep acne scars and post surgical scars, we would typically use higher energy levels. The downtime is thus slightly longer, and could extend to five days or one week for very strong treatments.
