How Are Acne Scars Formed?
Our skin is essentially comprised of two layers: the epidermis (top layer), and the dermis (bottom layer). When acne scars are formed, it is mainly due to damage caused to the dermis layer of the skin as a result of inflammation – causing a loss of tissue and collagen in the dermis layer.
What this means is that treatments catered to solve issues in the epidermis is not useful for treating deep, depressed acne scars.
How Can Deep Acne Scars Be Treated?
To treat deep acne scars, the dermis layer of the skin needs to be restored to its original condition. This involves remodelling of the scar fibres found in the dermis, and replacing it with new collagen fibres – providing extra support to the epidermis and pushing up the scar from underneath.
However, in order to reach the dermis, which is 1 to 3mm below the epidermis – treatments that are able to penetrate deeper below the skin is necessary.

How Can Deep Acne Scars Be Treated?
Knowing how acne scars are formed is crucial to understanding how INFINI works.
INFINI utilizes a patented microneedle system that allows it to have a penetration depth of up to 3.5mm below the skin. With other conventional laser and radiofrequency (RF) treatments – the maximum reach is only 1.5 – 1.75 mm below the skin.
This makes the INFINI treatment both more efficient, and effective.
Comparison of Penetration Depth Between Acne Scar Treatments
Fractional CO2/Erbium YAG Laser: up to 1.5 mm
Intracel/Ultracel: up to 1.75 mm
INFINI: up to 3.5 mm
With INFINI, it is now possible to treat acne scars where other treatments have failed.
Benefits of INFINI Acne Scar Treatment
One of the biggest barriers for acne scar treatments is downtime.
While Fractional CO2 laser treatments were once thought to be the gold standard for treating acne scars – the high energy levels used is associated with a longer downtime. Patients often experience redness for 3 to 4 days, with scabs that last up to 7 days after a session.
With INFINI, patients only experience mild redness for 3 to 4 days, making it more practical for undergoing the procedure over the weekend.
The reason for low downtime? The patented insulated microneedle system generates and delivers heat energy deep into the dermis – allowing it to heal twice as fast as compared to a fractional CO2 laser treatment. Watch the Jello video below to see how INFINI is able to prevent surface burns.
3 – 4x More Effective = Less Treatments Needed
In a single treatment session, we are able to perform multiple passes over the same area – treating the entire thickness of the dermis.
From our experience, this makes INFINI 3 – 4x more effective than conventional Fractional CO2 laser, which only allows a single shot at a time. As seen in the Jello test below, this means that we are able to achieve much more in just one treatment of INFINI. To put this in perspective, our doctors are able to successfully treat deep acne scars in far less time and sessions. This is in comparison to conventional Fractional CO2 laser, as well as other, multi-needle techniques like Intracel.
Treat Deeper Scars
In order to successfully treat deep acne scars, it is important to be able to reach below the scar tissue and stimulate deep collagen production – this serves to push up the scars from beneath and smooth out the skin.
With INFINI, the results are permanent. Since the treatment acts to stimulate the skin to remove old scar tissue and remodel healthy and organised collagen fibres to replace them – this ensures that the skin is fully treated from within, and stays that way.
Bonus: Lifting and Wrinkle Reduction
INFINI stimulates your skin to produce and increase your collagen levels. Not only is this advantageous for scar remodelling, you will also be able to experience a younger, lifted and more contoured face as part of the treatment. Especially as we age, our skin loses its elastin and collagen fibres – leading to undesirable sagging and wrinkles. The new collagen and elastin fibres produced by your body as a result of INFINI can help reduce these effects.
