Pre-Wedding Acne Treatments

Acne Treatments for Brides-to-be

Achieve beautiful glowing wedding skin; pre-wedding bridal skincare made easier than ever before.

From the perfect cake to the prefect wedding dress, every bride deserves perfection. And who doesn’t want to look their best on their big day?

Acne (acne vulgaris) is an inflammatory skin condition that occurs when pores get clogged with oil and dead skin cells. Symptoms of acne range from the appearance of whiteheads, blackheads or pimples depending on the severity of the outbreak. The presence of bacteria in the pores can cause a more severe inflammation.

While acne outbreaks are typically concentrated on the face, unfortunately, they can also affect the arms, chest, or upper back area, which may be troubling for brides with off-the-shoulder, sleeveless, or bare-back bridal gowns.

Stress and pressure from wedding planning can also exacerbate acne flare-ups. The excessive oil production due to hormonal imbalance brought upon by increased stress is one of the most prevalent causes of adult acne outbreaks — hyper-activity of the sebaceous glands (oil glands) greatly increases the risk of clogged pores.

Pre-wedding acne treatments for a radiant bridal glow

When it comes to wedding planning and pre-wedding skincare, careful consideration of the pre-wedding timeline or schedule is vital. Thus, treatments suggested on this page are chosen based on:

  • How convenient and quick they are to undergo (“lunchtime treatments”)
  • Low to no downtime following the treatment

It is, however, important to note that the best results from all treatments listed on this page are not instantaneous and no treatment can guarantee that the acne outbreak or acne scars will disappear overnight following a single treatment session.

It is advisable to consult and work with a trusted healthcare provider at least six months prior to your wedding day to ensure that the best results for your treatment of choice are achieved.

The Clifford Clinic is equipped to provide you with an array of effective acne treatments in Singapore that tackle the root cause of your acne, or work to alleviate/remove factors that exacerbate your outbreak. If you also suffer from acne scarring caused by previous acne out breaks/chronic acne, you may require specialised acne scar treatments to remove scar pigments or even out atrophic or hypertrophic scars.

AGNES Acne

If you are still months away from your big day, you may consider AGNES Acne, the permanent cure to acne break-outs.

AGNES is a non-surgical and non-invasive localised acne treatment that utilises radiofrequency (RF) energy to treat the root cause of chronic acne by selectively targeting and destroying the problematic pores causing the outbreak.

AGNES Acne excels in treating recurrent pimples (pimples that form in the same spot during every outbreak); during the treatment, controlled RF energy is delivered via insulated micro-needles directly into hyperactive sebaceous glands responsible for excess sebum (oil) production, preventing the hair follicles from becoming clogged and inflamed.

This is a relatively fast treatment with a short down time suitable for those with tight schedules; a full session taking about half an hour to complete (depending on the number of problematic pores being treated) and the redness from the treatment only lasting for around a day.

However, when considering AGNES, do take into account that a second follow-up session is needed the next day after the first session to squeeze out the dead cells from the pores.

Zero downtime acne treatments for soon-to-be brides

If your wedding date is close and you can’t afford any downtime, you may want to opt for these acne treatments instead:

1) Q Switch laser

Q-switch is a non-invasive laser-based form of acne and acne scar treatment that uses an intense pulse of high-energy light of a specific wavelength (1064nm) to target P. acnes bacteria that infect blocked hair follicles and cause inflammation.

The intense and concentrated energy and heat from the laser kills bacteria, shrinks oil glands, and breaks down pigmented cells in the treatment area, making Q-switch a three-pronged approach that prevents excessive oil production and inflammation while also removing acne marks and scars from previous outbreaks.

Q-switch is suitable as a “lunchtime treatment” as it has almost to no downtime and can be completed in 15-minute.

2) HydraFacial

HydraFacial is a multi-action facial treatment that reduces oiliness and also cleanses, exfoliates, and hydrates by combining the use of hydra-dermabrasion, mild acid peels, and extraction in a single spa like treatment.

HydraFacial treats acne and reduces the occurrence of future flareups in 5 steps:

  1. Cleansing and exfoliating the skin by removing death skin cells
  2. Loosening dirt accumulated in clogged pores using a mild acid peel (no down time)
  3. Painless extraction of dirt from pores via vortex suction
  4. Hydration by Vortex-Fusing antioxidants and hyaluronic acid into the skin
  5. Protecting the skin with HydraFacial Daily Essentials to maintain results

This professionally done procedure using a specialised HydraFacial tip and is suitable for treating a variety of skin conditions including acne, dryness, and wrinkles.

3) Oral medications

Oral medication can also be taken on their own or taken as a complement to a treatment, to alleviate or prevent acne.

Our doctors at The Clifford Clinic may sometimes prescribe oral medications, such as antibiotics or Accutane, alongside treatments or on their own to keep active acne breakouts under control and boost results from treatments.

Medical acne treatments

If your wedding day is fast approaching and you are unfortunately still suffering from persistent acne breakouts or are unable to get rid of oily skin, you may wish to consider medical treatment.

As with the treatments above, medical acne treatments listed below have low to no downtime and are easy to fit into a tight schedule.

Gold Photothermal Therapy (PTT)

Gold Photothermal Therapy (PTT) utilises a dermatology laser and gold nanoparticles to modify sebaceous glands, inhibiting the formation of acne by stopping excessive oil secretion and preventing the clogging of pores.

Gold PTT is a medical treatment that targets the root cause of an acne flare up: the sebaceous follicles. Selective photo-thermolysis of sebaceous follicles is carried out by using a dermatology laser to heat light-absorbing gold nanoparticles that are topically delivered into the pores and sebaceous glands.

Targeted heating of the sebaceous follicles modifies and cleans the pores and sebaceous glands, reducing sebum production and alleviating acne lesions.

Acne Jab (Cortisone shot)

Cortisone is a steroid hormone that reduces the inflammation, swelling, and pain caused by cystic acne. A cortisone shot can flatten out cystic acne within a day, but it is typically used as a short-term relief of inflammation or to reduce the size of large cysts.

For brides who want an extra boost

Beautiful and radiant skin is the perfect complement to any wedding dress. If you want an extra boost to your skin alongside your acne treatment, or if you don’t have acne and just want to enhance your glow, you could consider the following treatments also offered at The Clifford Clinic:

Long pulsed laser treatment

For smooth skin with tight pores — Long-pulsed laser treatment is a zero-downtime treatment that uses a long-pulsed dermal laser to deliver 1064nm laser energy deep into the skin’s dermis to treat wrinkles, fine lines, and enlarged pores commonly caused by photodamage or aging.

Long-pulsed laser treatment allows for rejuvenation from within the skin itself by targeting and stimulating fibroblast cells (collogen producing cells), increasing collagen production to replace the collogen lost due to photodamage or aging.

Increasing the collogen content of the skin restores the skin’s structure and tightens the skin for a lifting effect while simultaneously smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles and shrinking enlarged pore.

Profhilo

For dewy and plump skin Profhilo® is a 100% pure concentrated hyaluronic acid (HA) based injectable treatment with low to no downtime that treats saggy skin via bio-remodelling.

Unlike conventional dermal fillers that just add volume to the skin, Profhilo encourages bio-remodelling via stimulating fibroblast cells in the skin to increase collagen and elastin production, enhancing the skin’s firmness and elasticity.

HA in Profhilo also readily bind to water molecules, allowing for water to be drawn into and held onto by the skin. The excellent skin hydration capacity of Profhilo coupled with its ability to tighten and firm up the skin leaves the skin with a supple, plump, and dewy look following the treatment. With all these perks, Profhilo is certainly a highly recommended and popular treatment in the market for brides-to-be.
