Long Pulsed Lasers in Singapore

What is Long-pulsed laser treatment?

Long-pulsed laser treatment is a skin laser treatment to treat wrinkles, fine lines and enlarged pores caused by photodamage, aging or other skin ailments. The Clifford Clinic is the first aesthetics clinic in Singapore to offer this no-downtime treatment that sees immediate results.

Aging and photodamaged skin

In young and healthy skin, support structures like collagen and elastin help maintain volume and elasticity. However, as we age, the production of these support structures slows down, causing the skin to lose elasticity, which can lead to the following effects:

  • General skin laxity, causing the face to sag
  • Formation of wrinkles and fine lines
  • Enlarged pores

All of these signs contribute to the “tired” look typically associate with aging, making one look older than their actual age. Furthermore, these effects can be accelerated with photodamage from exposure to UV radiation from the sun or other sources.

Fortunately, these signs can be reversed with long-pulsed laser treatment.

How do Long-pulsed lasers work?

The Clifford Clinic is the first in Singapore to offer the Long-pulsed laser treatments for large pores, fine lines and wrinkles. The laser emitted has a wavelength of 1064nm lasers are used during treatment. The longer wavelength allows laser energy to be delivered deeper into the dermis as compared to other laser, stimulating rejuvenation from deep within the skin. The laser is emitted in millisecond pulses, much longer than most lasers with nanosecond pulses. This allows the laser to build up more energy between pulses and deliver more energy per pulse.

During the treatment, laser energy is delivered into the dermis, specifically targeting skin fibroblast cells, stimulating them to increase collagen production. This replaces the lost collagen caused by photodamage, aging or other factors. Amongst other effects, Long-pulsed laser treatment shrinks large pores, smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, as well as tightening the skin for a general lifting effect.

How effective is it?

In a study investigating the effectiveness of Long-pulsed lasers on wrinkle reduction and skin laxity, patients exhibiting the above symptoms were given 3 sessions of Long-pulsed, 1064nm laser treatment spaced evenly over 12 weeks. After treatment, patients exhibited an average improvement of 45.1% in their symptoms, with most patients showing significant reduction in wrinkles, fine lines and pore size. Furthermore, none of the participants showed any adverse reaction to the treatment.

Here, we can see that not only is Long-pulsed laser treatment effective in treating these symptoms, it is also very safe with little to no side effects.
