What is Cryolipolysis?
The story mainly revolves around two things: children, and ice cream popsicles.
After keeping popsicles in their mouth for too long and developing frostbite inside the cheeks – parents noticed their child’s face being slimmer on the side of the frostbite.
Harvard researchers then caught on to this phenomenon – coining it the medical term “popsicle panniculitis”. In addition, they developed a device that makes use of the same phenomenon to permanently remove fat cells using a non-invasive technique – otherwise known as cryolipolysis.
Z-Lipo is the revolutionary, third-generation cryolipolysis treatment system available at The Clifford Clinic in Singapore.
What is Z-Lipo?
With further advancements being made to the cryolipolysis device, the treatment has now evolved into a less painful and more effective form – Z-Lipo.
During the treatment, the applicator will be placed concurrently on targeted problem areas, such as the arms, abdomen or thighs. The specially designed applicator then works to cool and freeze the fat cells at a specific temperature – typically 4 – 9 degree celsius below normal body temperature.
At this “magic temperature”, excess fat cells will freeze while keeping blood liquid – preventing the damage of surrounding tissues and maintaining maximum effectiveness of the treatment.
Once damaged, the body’s natural immunity then acts to clear these fat cells. They are then either reabsorbed by the body and utilized for energy over the next month, or permanently removed.
Why is Z-Lipo more effective?
Z-Lipo has a distinct advantage due to its 2 proprietary applicators. Allowing our doctors to target two areas at a time – this means that we are able to halve the time needed to complete treatment using Z-Lipo!
Being a third-generation sculpting treatment, its protocol has also improved immensely to include a unique suction massage that is activated during treatment. Patients may experience slight bruising and tenderness of the treated area, which usually heals in a week. However, side effects are generally minimal.
The areas that are treated will most likely feel a little sore, similar to the feeling of having done too many sit-ups. Other than that, you should be able to get back to your normal activities almost immediately.
The treatment will feel similar to a “pull and tug” – due to the suction effect of the Z-Lipo machine that “pulls” the treatment area to the cooling panels of the applicator and kick-starting the fat freeze process.
