Why Laser Hair Removal Is Better Than Any Other Hair Removal

Why Laser Hair Removal Is Better Than Any Other Hair Removal

When it comes to removing unwanted body hair, there are many ways to get rid of them. Whether it is on the armpits, legs, bikini line, or other parts of the body, the main reasons for choosing to get rid of body hair usually include a desire for femininity and attractiveness.

While there are various ways to remove unwanted hair, there are a few go-to methods. Some of them include:

Shaving

Shaving is one of the favoured methods at home. All you need is a razor, and it’s quick and easy to incorporate into your daily routine.

However, since the root is intact, the results would only last one to three days before hair starts growing again. If you are not careful with the razor, you also risk cutting yourself and leaving a wound behind.

Your skin may even feel rough since shaving only cuts the hair at the surface. Additionally, the rough patches on parts of your body, such as the elbow, are more prone to being cut. This is because it’s challenging to see the hair in that area, and the skin there is usually uneven.

The process of growing back the hair can also inflame the hair follicles, resulting in the shaved area being itchy.

Waxing

Another popular hair-removal method is waxing. It involves removing the hair follicle from the root by applying soft or hard heated wax to the unwanted hair area. Because this method removes the hair from the root, you can stay hairless longer.

Moreover, it is highly effective in removing the shorter and more stubborn hairs. After a few waxes without any usage of shaving or tweezing, the hair will grow in softer and finer forms. Also, the hair will grow more sparsely.

However, waxing can risk breaking the hair off instead, which prevents the hair from being removed entirely. It can also be more painful than shaving.

Tweezing

Tweezing, or plucking, is similar to waxing, except that it’s usually used to pluck a few hairs at a time. It removes the entire hair from the follicle if done correctly. This would keep the hair from growing back for up to six weeks.

Since tweezing only allows a few hairs to be removed at one time, this method is ideal for plucking stray hairs from the eyebrows. While you can use tweezing for other areas, such as the pubic region, it can be time-consuming and painful.

While it is a low-risk way to get rid of stray curls along the bikini line, it can also cause itching, irritation, and damage to the skin if you are not careful. Moreover, it can also result in ingrown hairs if it accidentally breaks off.

Both waxing and plucking at sensitive areas such as underarms can also cause something called chicken skin. The areas where the hair is plucked may form red, brown, or white bumps due to the clogging of tissues around the roots. Although they pose no threat to health, they tend to be itchy, rough, and unpleasant-looking.

Laser-hair removal

Laser removal removes hair by targeting pigment in the hair and hair follicles. For this reason, they work best on hair that is dark in colour, such as dark brown or black. The melanin would then be heated up when they absorb light and laser energy. This would cause controlled hair follicles damage and stop any more hair growth.

The still-growing hair will then fall off, which leaves your skin smooth and hairless. Our laser hair removal treatment utilises the 808nm diode laser and the 1064nm long-pulsed laser. Their contrasting penetration depth allows us to effectively remove hairs that are shallow and deep-rooted.

Although there are several different laser systems available to reduce unwanted hair, studies have revealed that 1064nm long-pulsed laser can give a more permanent result, lasting at least 12 months after the final laser treatment, reducing 70% to 90% of the unwanted hair.

Moreover, unlike most laser removals which are fit for lighter skin and darker hair because of their dependence on eliminating melanin, the longer wavelength of the 1064nm long-pulsed laser minimises epidermal melanin absorption and emphasises on wavelength penetration to the dermal hair follicular unit for hair removal.

Hence, this hair removal treatment is safer for the darker skin tones, and also works on groups of people who could not do other treatments such as IPL due to their darker skin tones. Moreover, it’s more permanent as well, leaving you hair-free for a longer time.

Why choose laser hair removal @ The Clifford Clinic

Laser hair removal combines the advantages of other hair removals, and then some. Some benefits of laser hair removal include:

1. It’s quick.

Like shaving, laser hair removal can get rid of body hair almost instantly if you are looking for a fast solution.

While it is true you may need multiple sessions to stay hairless, these sessions will only take a few minutes at most, depending on the size of the treatment area.

2. It’s almost painless.

Unlike waxing, laser hair removal, especially SHR, is painless because it utilises low heat. No numbing cream is necessary when used. During the session, many people describe the feeling of snapping a rubber band against the skin.

You would only feel slight discomfort at most, but the sessions are so fast that it’s mostly bearable.

3. It prevents ingrown hairs.

If not carefully used, methods such as shaving, waxing, or tweezing can cause ingrown hairs to form. If you are inexperienced with self-hair removal, it’s better to try laser hair removal.

Because laser hair removal destroys the hair at the root, you would not need to worry about the troublesome hairs growing inwards or curling back into the body to become ingrown hair.

4. It’s a long-term solution.

Usually, laser hair removal leaves permanent, lasting results. Although some may need a touch-up after a few months or years, it remains as one of the best long-term solutions available. Even if the hair did grow back, you would see a permanent reduction in hair growth, giving you an easier time to maintain the hair.

Since it is long-term, it’s also cost-effective. You can probably save hundreds or even thousands of dollars since you would no longer need to spend money on monthly waxes or razor blades for hair removal at home.
