What you need to know about fat freezing

Fat freezing (or cryolipsis) is a non-invasive body contouring procedure that can naturally eliminate stubborn pockets of fat. This includes belly flab, inner thighs or lower arms, back flab or “bra rolls.” While it’s not meant to get rid of large amounts of fat – so don’t see it as a quick weight loss shortcut – it can lead to a slimmer and firmer silhouette, by targeting areas where fat tends to cling despite rigorous exercise and dedicated diets.

What is fat freezing?

Dr. Manstein and Dr. Anderson, the founders of fat freezing or CoolSculpting technology, noticed that kids who ate popsicles got dimples in their cheeks. This led to research on how cold could remove fat cells without damaging surrounding tissue, and over the years, they perfected the technology so that the machines could target specific cells.

The procedure is non-invasive and has less down-time than liposuction.  However, it takes a few weeks to a few months to see the full results, as the body naturally eliminates the dead, frozen fat cells.  The procedure is very effective especially when performed by experienced, licensed aesthetic doctors like those in The Clifford Clinic.

What happens during a fat freezing procedure?

In your first appointment, your doctor will assess if you are a good candidate for this procedure. Your doctor will examine the area you would like to contour and if it is best addressed by fat freezing or other body slimming techniques. The doctor will then “map” this area, and then apply a freezing agent before connecting you to the fat freezing machine.

The procedure takes about 1 to 2 hours depending on the area. After the treatment, you will be able to go home. Expect some bruises and swelling for a few days, but you will be able to go on with your regular routine.

What results to expect

You will see optimum results after a few weeks. Patients report that the area is visibly slimmer. If you’ve been exercising a lot, but unable to burn stubborn pockets of fat, you may even see muscle cuts.

While fat freezing will break down fat cells, it can’t prevent fat from returning if you do not diet and exercise. See this popular body contouring procedure as a complement to a healthy lifestyle – and the “body boost” you need to show off a silhouette you’ve worked hard to achieve at the gym.
