Thermage
Ageing starts long before we see the first wrinkle. The first sign is dullness: since your skin isn’t firm, light doesn’t bounce off the way it used to. Then we see some sagging around the mouth, cheeks and jawline. Our face loses its shape and definition. We can even look like we’re permanently frowning.
Here’s something to smile about: Thermage can tighten and firm your skin without surgery! How does it work, and what can you expect? The Singapore skin tightening experts at Clifford Clinic answers the most common questions.
How does Thermage tighten the skin?
Thermage uses radiofrequency energy to prompt your skin to produce more collagen. As the waves hit your cells, it creates heat that causes old collagen to become smaller and thicker. The body then gets rid of it, and makes new, healthy collagen to replace it.
You won’t see the effects right away, because your skin needs a few weeks to create the new collagen. But when it does, your skin is visibly tighter and firmer.
Will my skin look “natural”?
Yes! Thermage doesn’t change the structure of your face. Instead, it works with your body so you create collagen. You won’t look like “you’ve had something done.” You will look like a young, fresh and rested version of yourself.
Is Thermage safe?
Thermage is approved by the FDA and has been used to treat hundreds of thousands of people around the world. The doctors of The Clifford Clinic are also trained and experienced, and have personally given Thermage to many patients.
This skin-tightening treatment is also non-ablative (or in layman’s terms, it leaves the skin surface intact). The radio frequency waves are able to go into the inner layers where collagen is produced. There is less downtime and risk of infection than treatments that work on exposed skin.
What happens during Thermage?
We will clean your face to remove any makeup or dirt that can interfere with the radiofrequency. Then, the doctor creates a “grid” that will guide him during the procedure. You may be given a plastic shield to protect your eyes.
The doctor then applies a fluid that can help the waves penetrate the skin. He will then turn on the machine and apply the pulses. His experience and expertise comes into play here, as he distributes the pulses and concentrates it on areas that may need more tightening.
How long will a session last?
It depends on the area being treated, but a session can range from 45 minutes to 2 hours.
Is Thermage painful?
Some people find the heat a little uncomfortable but not painful. The cooling mechanism keeps your skin temperature tolerable. The pulses just feel like something is lightly bouncing off your face. The pressure may be more obvious on the bonier areas like the cheekbones.
What results can I expect?
You will see visibly tightening after the treatment, but your skin continues to improve for the next few months as it produces more collagen. Some benefits are:
- Smoother, healthier complexion
- Firm and more contoured skin
- Eyes and eyebrow area seems to be ‘lifted”
- Less fine lines and wrinkles
- Firmness around the neck and jawline
- Improved nasolabial folds
- Acne marks are lighter
