Hair Transplant Singapore – Essential Fact No 1.

Survival Rate is More Important Than Number of Grafts Transplanted.

Everybody is comparing prices on how much a graft costs.  The price of a hair transplant in Singapore ranges widely, from $2.50 to $10 per graft.  However, much more important than the price of each graft, is the actual survival rate of the grafts implanted.  This is for many reasons.

Firstly, you don’t want to be paying for grafts that don’t survive, because grafts are a finite resource.  You only have a certain number on the back and sides of your head, and any grafts that don’t survive are essentially gone.  Forever. So it’s not just the cost anymore, but the fact that a precious, irreplaceable resource has just been lost, because it was not handled well by the transplant team.

Secondly, if survival rate is low, the transplanted area will look patchy.  Imagine a moth-bitten, mangy growth just above your hairline.  Not particularly attractive.  You would be better off bald!

Finally, wasted grafts that don’t survive means that the effective cost per (living) graft is increased.  So while it may seem initially that you’re getting a great deal, the final result may be that you’re paying more per graft.

So choose a great transplant team, with a glowing track record of doing hair transplants.  And avoid being penny wise and pound foolish.

Hair Transplant Singapore – Essential Fact No 2.

Latest Technology is not always better.

How do I know this for sure?  Because I have invested in the latest hair transplant technology there is.  And here is the inside story.

ARTAS, the robotic hair transplant system was launched in Singapore in 2013, I was the first person to purchase this system.  The robot was amazing, and watching it work was simply mesmerizing.  It did not get tired, and consistently provided high quality grafts at a startling speed.  However, as time went on, I realized that technology has its limitations.

Some types of scalp just would not give a good yield of quality grafts.  And the robot could not adapt well to some areas.  Examples are the sides of the head, and areas of the scalp that were too hard or too spongy.  In the end, we still have the robot, and often used it, but found ourselves still relying heavily on traditional machine assisted FUE techniques.  Non-robotic.  But good.  And cheaper too!

So don’t be misled into thinking that latest technology is the best.  Having access to technology is great, and adds a fantastic complement to our range of services.  However, it must be properly harnessed in the right situations to optimize results for the patient!

Hair Transplant Singapore – Essential Fact No 3.

The Technician is King.

It’s no secret that hair transplantation is a team surgery.  The doctor is still the most important player in this team, making the correct diagnosis and deciding the treatment parameters.  However, anyone who has ever been in a hair transplant procedure will know that a large part of the surgery is performed by the hair transplant technicians.  And these technicians come with varying degrees of experience.  It takes a good technician more than 500 cases to pick up the art of handling the grafts quickly and delicately.  Quickly so that the grafts don’t dry out and lose their viability.  Delicately so that they aren’t crushed in the process of being quick.  When I encounter such a technician, I will grab hold of him/her and refuse to let him/her go.  Because they are so few and far in between.

My current chief hair transplant technician has been in the line of hair transplantation for over 10 years. During this time, she has over 2000 satisfied patients, and I consider her our finest asset.   She is both fast and good, knows the ins and outs of transplantation and all the secret techniques that make or break the procedure and ensure highest graft survival rate.

How Much Does a Hair Transplant Cost in Singapore?

The price of a Hair Transplant in Singapore averages $5 per graft, for a 1500 graft case.  Prices may be slightly higher for lesser quantities.

Conclusion

So that’s it in a nutshell.

Why do I tell you this?  As a doctor with more than 10 years of practice in Aesthetic Medicine, I have come to the realization that results are everything.  If I sold you a hair transplant today, and your hair did not grow afterwards, I would end up with an unhappy patient, terrible reviews on social media and end up refunding your payment plus have to bear all the cost and time wasted for doing an 8 hour procedure on you.  It simply does not make sense to me.  Therefore, my policy is always to make sure that you, my patient, are as well informed as possible.
